10.2 Million WordPress Blogs Down
by Scapepicture on Sep.01, 2010, under Blogs, News
Yesterday, about 10.2 million WordPress blogs went down losing almost 5.5 million page views. As this is the first major outage WordPress has had in years, people expected that their own blogs would be up within a few minutes. How wrong they were… An extremely large amount of blogs displayed “Page cannot be displayed” for a total of 110 minutes!
According to Matt Mullenweg, the downtime was caused by an unscheduled “core router” change at one of WordPress.com’s datacenter providers True to Automattic’s slogan, “Inspired by you, Striving to create good, Nothing is perfect.”, it seem someone was less than perfect in designing their failover system… and then forgot to test it.
Brilliantly, my blog wasn’t affected(as far as i know).
Review- Red Dead Redemption (PS3)
by Scapepicture on Aug.31, 2010, under Blogs
Presented by: Rockstar Gaming
Price: £36.99/$55.99 (amazon.co.uk)
Genre: Action/ Adventure
Compatible Consoles: PS3/Xbox 360
Age Rating: 18
Review: I’m not a man for long reviews so im going to keep this moderately short! The game is set in the early 1900′s in the American Old West. You follow a man named John Marston on a long quest to hunt down his former gang members. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to play the first game in the series(Red Dead Revolver) so comparing them is out of the question.
Story Mode: The story mode can only be described as lengthy with a good 15 hours of casual game play. The missions to begin with are very tedious as you learn how to ride your horse and herd a load of cows. As you get deeper into the story, you become an addict for action as every mission start to contain conflict. You use a variety of weapons from the standard volcanic pistol to the very tricky carcano rifle. I tended to skip a lot of the pre-mission footage as I mainly just wanted to play the game. Don’t get me wrong, the footage was exciting, but just a little longer than I expected. Although, I regret this decision now because I hardly understand what’s going on! Your secret Ability of being able to use “Dead Eye” gives you a big advantage of over your enemies and decreases the difficulty of the game by a lot. Also, the ability for your guns to lock on to your enemy means that killing them is a simple matter of aiming your weapon roughly towards them and clicking the shoot button.
Multiplayer: Multiplayer Red Dead Redemption allows you to play in a variety of game modes including Gang Shootout( Team Deathmatch) to Grab the Bag(Capture the Flag). However the main part that makes the RDR multiplayer differ from any other multiplayer game such as the Modern Warfare series is that you have the ability to complete missions from story mode online with friends. This is called “Free Roam”. From the select menu, you can choose which game type you would like to go into if you’re not in the mood for missions. Each game mode begins with a shootout which involves both gangs facing each other in a stand-off. During the game you can pick up weapons, ammo and dead eye to increase your advantages over other players. Joining and creating posse’s or clans so to speak within games allows you to play on the same side as your friends and dominate.
Graphics: The graphics in game are not spectacular but do not degrade my final rating by much. Anyone who has played the most recent GTA games knows what I’m talking about.
Final Rating: 9/10
Conclusion: The variety of missions, hours of gameplay and multiplayer encouraged me to give this game a very high rating. I did not like any of the GTA games as they were in my opinion gory for no reason at all. RDR on the other hand, brought up my respect for Rockstar as they have brought out a game that is definetely worth playing.
Man sticks hand into jar of liquid nitrogen and takes it out unscathed!
by Scapepicture on Aug.30, 2010, under Blogs, News
WOW! I haven’t blogged in aggggessss! sorry viewers, but heres an interesting one for you!
The Leidenfrost effect: A phenomenon in which a liquid, in near contact with a mass significantly hotter than the liquid’s boiling point, produces an insulating vapor layer which keeps that liquid from boiling rapidly.
Mean anything to you? It didn’t to me until I applied it to this guy’s mental antics!
Theodore Gray proved that there is a safe and painless way to dip your hand into liquid nitrogen. And the secret is the Leidenfrost effect. The way it does this is by shielding your hand from temperatures of around 320 degrees with a layer of bubbles.
With his hand in the frigid vat for a split second, Gray says he “barely felt the cold at all.” The principle that kept him from losing his hand is the same one you spot when water droplets fall onto a scalding hot skillet—rather than evaporating immediately, they bounce around on a thin layer of steam. And when you stick your hand into the sub-zero nitrogen—boom—another instant layer of protective gas. Just make sure to pull yourself out as quickly as you went in, because those bubbles don’t last long, and frostbite is no fun.
You could pass on this theory to putting your hand into a cylinder of molten lead… if you ignored the rumours that molten lead sticks to your hands :/

Hi guys. Recently I decided to buy the Stimulus Pack for Modern Warfare 2 for my PS3. Although it is slightly outside of the niche I have for this blog, I chose to create a review on it because it relates to technology and gadgets in one way or another.
Overall Rating: 5/10

Video Blogging Ideas
by Scapepicture on May.11, 2010, under Video Blogs
Hey All,
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what my next video should be on? Unfortunately I have slightly run out of ideas as I’ve already done reviews and tutorials on most of my gadgets as written blogs. Of course I could always do technology news blogs, but I would need some Ideas on what to research and how to present the video.
Its up to you. Any ideas then?
PS- Your name will be appraised in the video if the idea is chosen
